BALING, August 6 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has refuted claims of being anti-Kedah and instead highlighted his efforts to bring in additional investments amounting to over RM25 billion to the Kulim Hi-Tech Park. According to Anwar, this success demonstrates that he is not against the “Rice Bowl” state but is working to attract investments to the entire country, including Kedah. “Why would I be anti-Kedah?
I brought in billions of ringgit in investments to Kedah, you can ask them (Kedah government) about it… Am I someone who dislikes people from Kedah? They say I give all the investments to Penang, to Johor. Do you think I, as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, would do that? “But for Kedah, I brought in additional investment from Infineon, the largest outside Germany. Where? Kulim. Which state? Kedah, that’s why Kedah got a share, because we can do the work. To say I am anti-Kedah, that is not true,” he asserted.
Anwar made these remarks during the Madani Unity Tour Program in Kupang, Baling, on Friday. Present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook. The Prime Minister emphasized that, as the head of the country, he does not neglect any state when it comes to attracting foreign investments. Previously, the media reported that an additional investment of about RM25 billion by Infineon Technologies would be implemented at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kedah.
It is understood that this investment includes plans to enhance facilities for building the world’s largest 200-millimeter (mm) silicon carbide (SiC) fabrication plant over the next five years. During the program, Anwar also introduced the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the upcoming Kedah State Elections (PRN), which will take place on 12th August. Apart from Kedah, five other states, including Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, will also hold their PRN.
