GEORGE TOWN, August 15 – Ascott Gurney Penang is poised to enthral art enthusiasts with its debut Art Soiree, a captivating event that brings together a diverse array of visual artistry. This distinctive artistic gathering, forged through a collaborative effort with local artists, stands as a highlight of the George Town Heritage Celebrations 2023 and George Town Festival 2023. The Ascott Art Soiree underscores Ascott Gurney Penang’s steadfast commitment to nurturing the local art scene and cultivating an appreciation for cultural talents.

The event offers an immersive journey into the world of art, where paintings serve as portals to imagination and local heritage. The occasion will showcase an exclusive collection of carefully curated artworks crafted by the local artist Ooi Viv. These exquisite art pieces deftly capture the essence of Penang’s iconic landmarks, weaving together artistic prowess and the essence of hospitality. The selected artworks, including replicas of the Blue House on Campbell Street, the Wooden House on Lintang Slim, Jelutong, and the Atap House on Perak Road, Jelutong, serve as windows into Penang’s rich historical fabric.

Attendees of the Art Soiree will be treated to a fresh perspective on Penang, as the artworks elegantly bring to life the grandeur of these locales through vibrant hues and intricate brushwork. The focal point of the Ascott lobby, a captivating installation art, pays homage to the local inspiration that has significantly influenced the design of the property. Moving beyond the celebration of art, this collaboration aims to bridge the gap between local and international visitors, enabling them to gain a profound appreciation for Penang’s cultural heritage.

By offering a visual preview within the hotel premises, guests can anticipate and explore Penang’s offerings before venturing out. The event takes on an altruistic dimension with the inclusion of an art sale. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of select artworks will be contributed to the Penang Hospice Society, a charitable organization that extends comprehensive medical care to individuals facing severe life-limiting illnesses.

Sharon Ang, General Manager of Ascott Gurney Penang, underscored the profound community impact of the event, emphasizing, “We believe that we can have a greater positive influence on communities. We want to create resilient, thriving communities where we operate that are rooted in strong community support and cultural legacy.” Art enthusiasts and visitors are encouraged to be part of this captivating fusion of art and purpose by visiting Ascott Gurney, Penang.
