SHAH ALAM, August 18 – The Chief Minister of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, had an audience with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam on Thursday. Amirudin arrived at the palace around 2:30 pm in the official Chief Minister’s car, a Toyota Camry, accompanied by a Royal Malaysian Police escort. The purpose of the meeting is still unknown, but it is believed to be related to proposing a candidate for the position of Selangor Chief Minister.

Previously, various speculations regarding the appointment of the Chief Minister had been circulating in the media. Amirudin is expected to take the oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Selangor on Friday. Earlier reports suggested that the Unity Government would retain Amirudin as the Selangor Chief Minister if the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition won in the state’s recent state election. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 18 during the launch of the Selangor State Level Agro Madani Touch Program in Kuala Selangor.

Anwar stated that the decision was to ensure Amirudin’s continued success in governing Selangor. However, there are rumors that Amirudin might be appointed as a federal minister, and a new candidate from PKR might replace him. Among the names being mentioned is Dr. Fahmi Ngah, the PKR candidate who won the Seri Setia State Assembly seat. In the recent Selangor state election, the PH-BN coalition managed to form the state government by winning 34 out of 56 State Assembly seats.

Out of the 34 seats won by the coalition, DAP secured 15 seats, PKR won 12 seats, and Parti Amanah Negara secured five seats, while BN won two seats. On the other hand, the PN coalition won 22 seats through BERSATU, which secured 12 seats, while PAS won 10 seats.
