JAKARTA, September 7 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed the necessity of a regional financial system capable of handling global economic uncertainties and financial risks while enhancing regional economic freedom and safety nets. Speaking at the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, he also expressed concerns about food security and called for increased cooperation in smart agriculture, particularly focusing on smallholders. Anwar urged cooperation with China, Japan, and South Korea in renewable energy development, biological diversity assets, and agricultural technology applications.
He also welcomed the adoption of the ASEAN Plus Three Leaders’ Statement on Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Development. The meeting was attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, and chaired by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Anwar led Malaysia’s delegation at the 43rd ASEAN Summit, which concluded on Thursday. It was his first summit with ASEAN dialogue partners Australia, China, Japan, India, South Korea, the United States, and Canada.
