TOKYO, JAPAN, October 2 – The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has taken a significant step in promoting the appeal of Tokyo, a city where tradition and cutting-edge culture harmoniously coexist. On August 9, 2023, they opened a Tokyo Brand PR site called “#Tokyo Tokyo BASE” in Terminal 3 of Haneda International Airport, Tokyo’s gateway to the world. “#Tokyo Tokyo BASE” is designed to communicate Tokyo’s charm to both Japanese and international visitors. It offers a wide range of “Tokyo Omiyage (Tokyo Souvenirs),” jointly developed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in collaboration with private businesses.

These souvenirs include traditional handicrafts, stationery, and local food products. Moreover, the site provides hands-on Japanese cultural experiences and workshops, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Tokyo. In a colorful opening event, world-renowned Sanrio character Hello Kitty and Tokyo Tourism Ambassador, cosplayer Hakken, were special guests. Hakken expressed his anticipation for the offerings, while his visit to the store introduced him to the cypress fan, recommended by the omikuji (fortune-telling strips), which he found to have “a relaxing scent.”

Akiko Matsumoto, the Deputy Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, conveyed her hopes for visitors to “experience the diverse charms of Tokyo” through this newly established store. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s initiative aims to showcase the vibrant and diverse aspects of Tokyo, making it a memorable experience for travelers passing through Haneda International Airport.
