As enterprises and service providers increasingly turn to the edge for digital transformation, VMware is offering solutions to facilitate this shift. The new offerings include VMware Edge Orchestration that enables the orchestration and management of multiple edge services at scale. Retail Edge Industry Solution that tailored to support customer engagement, loss prevention, and point-of-sale transformation in the retail sector.
And VMware Edge Managed Connectivity Service that soon to be available, will allow wireless service providers to deliver private 4G/5G services to enterprises. These solutions are a response to the growing demand for edge computing across industries. The VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator, part of these offerings, aims to help organizations securely and cost-effectively deploy and manage edge deployments.
VMware is introducing the VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator (VECO), previously known as VMware SASE Orchestrator. VECO provides unified management for VMware SASE and the VMware Edge Compute Stack. This offering bridges the gap between edge networking and edge computing, streamlining the planning, deployment, operation, and management of edge environments. It empowers organizations to run edge-native applications focused on business outcomes. VMware defines the software-defined edge as a distributed digital infrastructure that runs workloads near endpoints, whether in an office, on the road, or on a factory floor.
The goal is to connect these elements securely and reliably to the larger enterprise network in a scalable manner. VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator aligns with this approach, featuring right-sized infrastructure, pull-based orchestration, and network programmability. Building upon the VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator launch, VMware introduced orchestration capabilities for VMware Edge Compute Stack, based on Project Keswick. This technology simplifies the management of virtual machine (VM)- and containers-based applications and infrastructure at the edge.
It offers pull-based configuration, zero-touch provisioning, and supports GitOps principles for desired state management. With scalability and automation capabilities, it helps customers automate security updates across edge infrastructure, even for edges with unstable network connections. VMware Edge Compute Stack enables customers to consolidate hardware, modernize applications, and operate high-speed robotics with reduced overhead. This scalability supports innovations today and in the future. The VMware Retail Edge Solution brings the agility, ease of management, and enhanced security of VMware Edge Compute Stack to retail store environments.
It simplifies in-store infrastructure, accelerates application deployment, and supports next-generation AI apps, enhancing customer engagement, loss prevention, and point-of-sale transformation. VMware Private Mobile Network, a managed connectivity service, will be initially available in the current quarter (FY24 Q3). This service simplifies private mobile network deployment for enterprises and partners with wireless service providers to offer seamless integration and management into existing IT systems.
Betacom, Boingo Wireless, and Federated Wireless are the initial beta wireless service provider partners for this offering. These offerings demonstrate VMware’s commitment to addressing diverse edge use cases across industries, from manufacturing to retail, energy, and healthcare.
