KUALA LUMPUR, October 9 – In a strategic move, foodpanda Malaysia and AEON CO. (M) BHD have announced a partnership to enhance the shopping experience for customers in Malaysia. Under this collaboration, foodpanda users can access nearly 13,000 items from 30 stores, including 8 AEON MaxValu, 10 AEON Wellness, and 12 Daiso outlets, directly through the app. These items are available at the same affordable in-store prices, and goods will be delivered to customers’ doorsteps within a swift 30 minutes.

AEON’s presence on the foodpanda app will continue to expand, with plans to include additional AEON Wellness and Daiso stores. This expansion aims to increase AEON’s footprint in the realm of q-commerce, offering a seamless ordering process and doorstep deliveries to users. This partnership comes as online shopping in Malaysia is on the rise. With a mobile broadband penetration rate of 132% and a 10.4% year-on-year growth in e-commerce receipts recorded in Q1 of 2023, online shopping has become an integral part of Malaysian life.

The desire to save time, avoid commuting, parking hassles, and long checkout lines underscores the enduring appeal of online shopping. Since debuting on foodpanda in April, AEON has experienced substantial growth, with revenue increasing more than fivefold by the end of August. During the same period, the average basket size of AEON customers on the platform grew by more than 30%, demonstrating their growing trust in foodpanda’s ability to deliver AEON’s high-quality products quickly.

The partnership between AEON and foodpanda Malaysia caters to Malaysians’ preference for a comprehensive online shopping experience that offers convenience and a wide range of essentials within a single app. Raphael Zennou, Vice President of Quick-Commerce at foodpanda, stated, The collaboration with Malaysia’s most iconic retail stores on foodpanda signifies a major milestone in our pursuit to deliver a holistic on-demand shopping experience for our customers. As Asia’s q-commerce pioneer, the partnership is a natural extension of foodpanda’s existing grocery offerings.

Customers can access a wide range of products at their fingertips through foodpanda shops, with almost 7,000 other outlets and a total of 4.7 million types of inventory for fast deliveries of household necessities. This partnership introduces flexible grocery shopping to Malaysians through foodpanda, allowing customers to pre-order, select their delivery times, and receive personalized recommendations based on their preferences.

Naoya Okada, Deputy Managing Director and COO of AEON CO. (M) BHD., expressed AEON’s commitment to bringing convenience to Malaysia, saying, “AEON has been close to the hearts of Malaysians for the past 39 years as one of their preferred retailers that provide consistent and affordable prices for quality fresh goods year-round while understanding evolving consumer demands. Today, we are elevating our commitment to bringing convenience to Malaysia through our partnership with foodpanda Malaysia, which is also a testament to our growing potential in the country.”

To celebrate this strategic partnership, AEON hosted a media launch at Evo Mall Bangi, highlighting the convenience of accessing an extensive range of groceries, wellness products, and household essentials with just a few taps on the phone. Additionally, to infuse Japanese culture into the lives of Malaysians, 160 traditional Japanese Lucky bags – fukubukuro – will be available starting next week for purchase under foodpanda picks on the app. Each bag contains a random assortment of goods from AEON MaxValu and AEON Wellness, all offered at a fixed price of RM25 per bag.
