KUALA LUMPUR, October 17 – UEM Edgenta Berhad, the leading Asset Management and Infrastructure Solutions company in the region, has taken a momentous step towards a greener future by launching its groupwide Net Zero Targets. The company is firmly committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. The launch, graced by YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, marks a significant commitment to combat climate change and drive sustainability in Malaysia and beyond.
UEM Edgenta’s ambitious targets include reducing its operational GHG emissions by 26% by 2030 and ultimately achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. These goals are in alignment with the International Energy Agency’s Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Global Pathway published in 2022. These targets are set against the company’s 2022 groupwide global baseline GHG carbon footprint of 17,577 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). To achieve these objectives, UEM Edgenta is adopting a multifaceted approach, focusing on energy efficiency solutions, renewable energy generation, and the electrification of its vehicle fleet.
In an era of heightened climate awareness, UEM Edgenta stands behind Malaysia’s commitment to sustainability across the economy, society, and the environment, ultimately working towards the national goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The company aligns its efforts with the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for 2021-2025, emphasizing sustainability across all sectors. Guided by the Finance Ministry’s Economic 2023 Outlook Report and embracing the National Policy on Climate Change, UEM Edgenta aims to contribute to Malaysia’s sustainable development goals through eco-friendly materials, renewable energy models, and sustainable asset management practices.
