This recognition acknowledges Zuellig Pharma’s unwavering dedication to sustainable practices and responsible business operations. Additionally, EcoVadis has lauded Zuellig Pharma as a leader in carbon management, highlighting its exceptional greenhouse gas (GHG) management system and robust commitment to decarbonization with science-based targets.
In the latest assessment for 2023, Zuellig Pharma soared with an impressive EcoVadis score of 82, setting it far ahead of the global and Asian averages, which stand at 48 and 33 points, respectively. This remarkable score underscores Zuellig Pharma’s outstanding work in areas such as human rights, sustainable procurement, and carbon emissions reduction, positioning it among the top 1% of all evaluated organizations. Zuellig Pharma’s remarkable progress is evident, with an overall EcoVadis score increase of 18 points since 2020, a feat notably exceeding the average 1.7-point improvement seen among other organizations during the same period.
The company consistently surpasses industry standards across the four key pillars of assessment, including environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. John Graham, CEO of Zuellig Pharma, expressed, “EcoVadis’ recognition for the third consecutive year underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability. We are determined to continue being a world-class healthcare solutions provider that contributes to a healthier future for Asia. Graham also highlighted the significance of continuous improvement in sustainability metrics and the development of robust action plans to address identified gaps.
Which have been instrumental in the company’s success. In its pursuit of safeguarding human rights and advancing sustainable procurement, Zuellig Pharma initiated the “Elevating Worker Voice” pilot program in 2022. This program monitors and addresses labor risks within its supply chain across Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Collaborating with The Mekong Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating modern slavery in Asia, Zuellig Pharma conducted surveys to understand the conditions of workers employed by its suppliers. The insights gathered from these surveys facilitated constructive discussions with suppliers and the implementation of collaborative measures to enhance labor practices.
In the coming year, Zuellig Pharma plans to establish regional guidelines for integrating worker surveys into supplier audits and expand the program throughout the region. In 2022, the company also achieved a remarkable 31% reduction in its overall greenhouse gas emissions. This progress was made possible through a series of initiatives, including the greening of fleets and facilities, migration to cloud-based data centers, and partnerships with suppliers to drive emission and waste reduction. These endeavors enabled Zuellig Pharma to enhance its operational efficiency and significantly reduce material value chain emissions and overall carbon footprint.
Earlier this year, Zuellig Pharma proudly earned an “A-” score for Supplier Engagement from the global carbon disclosure platform CDP, making it the first and only company worldwide in its sector to receive such recognition. The company was also awarded a “B” score for Climate Change by CDP, further reaffirming its commitment to environmental responsibility. CDP, a nonprofit charity, operates the global disclosure system that empowers investors, companies, and regions to manage their environmental impacts effectively. Zuellig Pharma’s dedication to sustainability, as exemplified by its platinum EcoVadis medal and leadership in carbon management, reinforces its position as a trailblazer in responsible and ethical business practices within the healthcare solutions industry.
