KUALA LUMPUR, October 18 – PETRONAS, Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari), Amazon, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are joining forces to accelerate their sustainability and decarbonization efforts in the global energy transition. This collaboration underscores PETRONAS’ commitment to providing affordable, low-carbon energy solutions while reducing its operational emissions. Leveraging Gentari’s expertise in clean energy solutions, this initiative aligns with Amazon’s aim to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The partnership encompasses a holistic approach to sustainability, technological advancement, and socioeconomic progress, focusing on the following key areas:
Electrifying Amazon’s India Transportation Network: Gentari will support the decarbonization of Amazon’s India transportation network by collaborating with third-party delivery service providers to further electrify their vehicles. Amazon has committed to deploying 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in its India delivery fleet by 2025. Gentari will provide electric vehicles and fleet management services to Amazon’s third-party delivery partners.
Plant of the Future: PETRONAS and AWS will explore the design and construction of a cutting-edge “plant of the future” that incorporates advanced technology, robotics, and automation solutions similar to those used in Amazon’s warehouses and facilities. This project aims to scale PETRONAS’ research and development efforts to potentially produce microalgae oil as a sustainable aviation fuel.
Evaluation of Low-Carbon Solutions: Amazon will assess PETRONAS’ low-carbon and alternative fuel solutions for potential integration in various areas, including mobility, stationary power applications, and carbon management.
Leveraging AWS Cloud Technology: PETRONAS will continue to utilize AWS cloud technology to enhance and expand its existing and new solutions. These include SETEL, Malaysia’s first e-wallet for purchasing fuel at PETRONAS stations, and STEAR, a cloud-based logistics solution for the offshore industry.
Workforce Upskilling: AWS will provide technical and non-technical training to PETRONAS employees through AWS Training & Certification programs. This initiative supports the development of a digitally skilled workforce in Malaysia.
