SELANGOR, October 19 – The Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) and the Aerospace Malaysian Innovation Centre (AMIC) have united their technological expertise through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 8, 2023. This historic agreement solidifies their commitment to collaborative endeavors, propelling the aerospace and aviation sectors to new heights. The MoU exchange took place during the prestigious Selangor Aviation Airshow 2023 (SAS ’23). The MoU marks a significant milestone, empowering MBOT to harness AMIC’s technological prowess as the MBOT Technology Expert Panel.

This panel will play a pivotal role in providing invaluable insights and guidance in refining the professional assessment framework. The ultimate aim is to ensure its alignment with industry best practices and the evolving needs of the aerospace and aviation sector. Datuk Ts. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir, FASc., President of MBOT, expressed the collaborative effort’s strategic direction. “This partnership is also geared towards aligning accreditation standards with the current workforce’s industry requirements. We eagerly anticipate leveraging our expertise to contribute positively to the growth and development of technologists and technicians in Malaysia,” she stated.

AMIC, at its core, is dedicated to advancing technology development within aerospace manufacturing and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO). Their approach centers on cutting-edge robotics, digitalization, and advanced processes. By streamlining technology implementation and nurturing talent capable of propelling the next wave of development, AMIC seeks to catalyze the sector’s growth. Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Zakri bin Abdul Hamid, Chairman of AMIC, highlighted the importance of this collaboration. “Working in conjunction with MBOT synergizes the strengths of both parties to ensure that technological advancements and human talents receive the recognition and accreditation they deserve.

Aerospace technologists and technicians are the acknowledged pioneers and builders of the industry’s vision for a sustainable future – a future characterized by net-carbon zero flights and a decarbonized manufacturing & MRO sector,” he emphasized. Established in 2011, the Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre (AMIC) is an industry-led research center dedicated to sustaining Malaysia’s aerospace industry’s competitiveness and resilience.

With a strong focus on aerostructure manufacturing, AMIC spearheads collaborative Research and Technology (R&T) projects in partnership with aerospace industry stakeholders and research institutions. This partnership between MBOT and AMIC is a testament to Malaysia’s commitment to fostering technological innovation and workforce development in the aerospace and aviation sectors. It represents a significant step forward in ensuring that the country’s technologists and technicians are equipped to meet the evolving demands and challenges of these dynamic industries.
