GEORGE TOWN, October 21 – In a significant international collaboration, PBA Resources Sdn Bhd (PBAR) has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian Potable Water Industry Association (PERPAMSI) in Lombok, Indonesia. This MoU marks the initiation of a two-year partnership (2023-2025) between PBAR, the training and HRD subsidiary of Penang’s PBA Group of Companies, and PERPAMSI, which represents the interests of 440 water supply operators in Indonesia. The primary objective of this partnership is to provide skills training and human resource development programs for PERPAMSI’s member organizations.
PBAR’s commitment in this collaboration is to train over 500 Indonesian water supply personnel from PERPAMSI in the first year. The broader goals of this partnership include offering training and HRD services to Indonesian water supply operators, securing accreditation from the Indonesian government for competency certifications issued by the Penang Water Services Academy (PWSA) and sharing expertise, experience, and knowledge in water supply engineering and management solutions with PERPAMSI through consultations and workshops. This renewed partnership follows a prior MoU between PBAR and PERPAMSI that spanned from 2017 to 2019, and it signifies the enduring commitment to enhancing water supply skills and capacity in Indonesia.
Over the years, PBA Group has played a crucial role in providing industry-relevant training to water personnel and school-leavers, not only in Malaysia but also internationally. The Penang Water Services Academy (PWSA), which was established in 2007, has trained over 5,000 individuals, including participants from various water supply operators in Malaysia, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, and Nepal. PBAR’s reputation in this field has led to collaborations with organizations like the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), International Water Association (IWA), and many others.
Through their programs, PWSA has played a key role in helping water supply operators achieve high technical competency levels, contributing to the industry’s growth and development. This partnership between PBAR and PERPAMSI highlights the ongoing commitment to enhancing water supply skills and capabilities in Indonesia, with a focus on improving water supply services for the betterment of the community. It’s a collaborative effort aimed at strengthening the water industry and addressing the growing demand for clean and reliable water supply services.
