KUALA LUMPUR, October 23 – UMW Holdings Berhad (“UMW”), in partnership with Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (“DBP”), has launched E-Puisi, an e-learning module on poetry. This innovative online learning platform is designed for students and beginners seeking to grasp poetry composition and delivery techniques through an accessible and flexible learning process. The official launch of E-Puisi took place at DBP and was graced by Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali, Director-General of the Ministry of Education, who represented YB Puan Fadhlina Sidek, Minister of Education.

Also present were Dato’ Sri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, President & Group CEO of UMW Holdings Berhad, Dato’ Dr. Mohd Anuar Rethwan, Chairman of the Board of DBP, and Dr. Hazami Jahari, Director General of DBP. While DBP initially developed the printed learning module on poetry, leveraging its expertise in Puisi, UMW adapted it into E-Puisi, an easy-to-understand and flexible e-learning platform to expand its accessibility to students and anyone interested in exploring the art of poetry composition and delivery. The development of E-Puisi was a collaborative effort between UMW Training Academy and DBP.

It comprises two segments: poetry composition and poetry delivery techniques, and can be accessed through DBP’s website and UMW’s website. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education will disseminate the e-learning links to students in schools and public higher education institutions. UMW’s involvement in this program aligns with its corporate social responsibility efforts to promote arts and literature as part of the nation’s heritage and its contribution to nation-building.

It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Article 11.4, which aims to “strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage. To further support its commitment to poetry promotion, UMW established Kelab Kreatif UMW in 2021. The club has organized more than 30 activities to date, including basic poetry writing workshops, national-level primary and secondary school poetry recitation contests, and the World Poetry Convention.  Kelab Kreatif UMW collaborated closely with UMW Training Academy in the development of E-Puisi. Dato’ Sri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali commented.

“We are honored to collaborate with DBP to launch this innovative e-learning module on poetry, aiming to foster interest among the younger generation in the art of poetry composition and delivery, positioning poetry as one of our national arts and cultural heritages. With the innovative E-Puisi, we believe it will have a wider and more effective reach within our society. We extend our utmost appreciation to the teams at DBP and UMW for making this e-learning platform a reality.”
