GEORGE TOWN, October 31 — Rapid Bus, the innovative transportation company, has announced its plans to introduce a Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) system in Penang, with the official launch scheduled for January. While specific trial dates and locations are yet to be disclosed, this system will serve as a first-mile, last-mile connector to major bus routes, offering greater convenience to Penang’s commuters. The concept of demand-responsive transit has been making strides in enhancing public transportation across Malaysia, with Klang Valley as a prime example.

The system allows passengers to request transportation based on their specific needs, providing a flexible and convenient solution for commuters. Rapid Bus introduction of this service in Penang aligns with the goal of improving the accessibility and efficiency of public transportation in the state. Additionally, Rapid Penang is set to receive a significant boost in its fleet with the addition of 70 new buses. The existing fleet comprises approximately 300 buses, serving the diverse transportation needs of Penang residents.

The newly acquired buses will be shorter in length compared to the current longer ones, designed to accommodate around 30 passengers. The longer buses can hold up to 67 passengers. This move reflects Rapid Bus commitment to optimizing the bus service, allowing for greater flexibility and adaptability to address varying passenger demands. Penang’s public transportation system stands to benefit significantly from these developments, with the introduction of demand-responsive transit and the expansion of Rapid Penang’s bus fleet. These initiatives aim to offer more convenient and accessible transportation options to Penang’s residents and visitors.

In a gesture of appreciation to the media, Rapid Bus CEO En Muhammad Yazurin Sallij hosted a special event, “Luncheon with Media Friends,” held yesterday. This delightful gathering featured an array of culinary delights, entertainment, and a lucky draw, highlighting the organization’s dedication to nurturing strong relationships with the media. The lucky draw added an element of excitement and anticipation, providing media friends and attendees the opportunity to win prizes and further enhancing the festive and inclusive atmosphere.
