KUALA LUMPUR, November 1 – eKelas, the flagship community programme by Maxis, has successfully concluded the 2023 edition of its Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) StoryFest. The competition, now in its fifth year, aimed to enhance students’ confidence in spoken English. Students were given the opportunity to participate in individual storytelling categories or group mini-drama performances based on specific themes. The competition was launched with a series of online storytelling workshops and school roadshows, bringing the excitement of eKelas HIP StoryFest to schools and their communities.
Over four months, eKelas HIP StoryFest received an overwhelming response, with more than 8,000 entries submitted by students across Malaysia. The event culminated with the celebration and recognition of 70 winners, spanning from Year 4 to Form 5 students nationwide, who were awarded attractive prizes such as tablets and book vouchers. eKelas, with over 90,000 registered users on its portal, is committed to supporting students’ learning beyond the classroom. The programme offers an engaging and dynamic approach to digital learning, encouraging students to develop essential skills, making their educational experience more meaningful and rewarding.
According to Mariam Bevi Batcha, Maxis Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, “Through HIP StoryFest, we’re not only enhancing students’ confidence but also fostering a deeper understanding of subjects, equipping students with essential skills for more meaningful and rewarding studies.” Student participants shared their positive experiences with the competition, recognizing the impact on their learning journey. Winners, like the Form 2 students from SMK Convent Kajang who secured the First Prize in Mini Drama – Lower Secondary, mentioned that participating in the competition helped improve their vocabulary, grammar, and confidence in speaking.
Similarly, primary student Cheah Xing Ru from SJK (C) Chee Wen, Selangor, who won the First Prize in Storytelling – Primary Level, emphasized that the competition taught her about pronunciation, body language, and confidence, enabling her to overcome stage fright. eKelas, an after-school digital learning initiative for students from Year 4 to Form 5, offers learning enrichment in an engaging manner and provides access to quality education content aligned with the Malaysian School Syllabus. Covering subjects like Science, Mathematics, English, Bahasa Melayu, and History, as well as digital and soft skills topics, eKelas fosters experiential learning through live tutorials, group learning, competitions, and digital content via the eKelas portal and app, contributing to students’ holistic growth and learning.
