PUTRAJAYA, November 2 – YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology (MOSTI), chaired the Vaccine Fraternity Meeting. This periodic meeting, held every six (6) months, gathered various stakeholders, including research experts, clinical and pre-clinical research specialists, and pharmaceutical industry players involved in the vaccine manufacturing, development, and research ecosystem.
The purpose of this meeting was to exchange insights, comments, and specific suggestions regarding vaccine development in Malaysia to enhance the country’s capabilities as a human vaccine producer based on the National Vaccine Development Roadmap (PPVN). The PPVN, launched on November 1, 2021, aims to make Malaysia a human vaccine producer within 10 years. MOSTI and the Ministry of Health (KKM) have been entrusted with leading the PPVN. A dedicated office, the Malaysian Vaccine Development Project Management Office (MVPO), has been established to monitor the implementation of strategies and initiatives under this plan.
The plan also supports the National Biotechnology Policy 2.0 (DBN 2.0) under the Health and Well-being Core. From 2021 to September 2023, a total of 13 vaccine research projects received funding under MOSTI, with nine (9) projects under the Strategic Research Fund, two (2) projects under the MOSTI Combating COVID-19 Fund (MCCOF), and two (2) projects under the National Vaccine Development and Strengthening Fund (DPVN). The total funding for these 13 vaccine research projects amounts to RM33 million.
