KUALA LUMPUR, November 4 — IKEA is reaching for the stars in Malaysia as the nation’s first astronaut, Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, embarks on a nationwide tour to celebrate the arrival of the new AFTONSPARV collection. This IKEA space-themed kids’ collection aims to inspire young explorers with its range of soft, cuddly toys, cardboard spaceships, and tent rockets, bringing the wonders of outer space into the comfort of homes.
Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia, emphasizes the importance of learning through play, stating, “At IKEA, we believe that the best way for children to learn, grow, and develop is through play – and home is their most important playground. Created in collaboration with young children aged three to seven, AFTONSPARV offers endless opportunities for creative play and role-playing, that we hope will ignite their enthusiasm and love for space.”
In collaboration with Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar, Malaysia’s first astronaut, IKEA Malaysia is embarking on a nationwide tour to inspire the next generation of space explorers. Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar will visit IKEA stores across the country, sharing his experiences in space exploration with customers and space enthusiasts. “I am eager to meet fellow Malaysians, including parents and their children, at IKEA stores across the country, and thrilled to partner with IKEA to inspire a love of space exploration—something I’ve always been passionate about,” said Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar.
“Imagination is the fuel that propels us to dream big and reach for the stars. By sharing my experience, I hope to encourage young kids and Malaysians everywhere to pursue their passions, no matter how big or small.” The nationwide tour is set to kick off on November 8, 2023, at IPC Shopping Centre in collaboration with IKEA Damansara, starting at 3:30 PM. Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar will also visit IKEA stores in Cheras, Tebrau, and Batu Kawan on the following dates:
- November 10, 3:20 PM – IKEA Cheras
- November 19, 3:30 PM – IKEA Tebrau
- November 25, 3:45 PM – IKEA Batu Kawan
The AFTONSPARV collection is not only designed to foster space exploration curiosity among children but is also created with sustainability in mind, aligning with IKEA’s commitment to safety, fun, and sustainability. Soft toys in the collection are made from recycled polyester, and the cardboard used in the rocket play tent contains at least 70% recycled materials.
