GEORGE TOWN, November 4 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and STRAVIK Sdn. Bhd. have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to deploy ‘Connect2Save,’ an integrated energy utilization dashboard, to measure, optimize, and report on energy usage and cost reduction across various buildings at the USM Penang campus. This collaborative effort extends beyond energy management. USM and STRAVIK will also engage in research and development to create sustainable and cost-effective hardware and software solutions in areas such as water management, waste management, and energy storage technology.

A significant focus will be on the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in analytics for energy storage projects. The partnership addresses the growing need for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) data and disclosure requirements in Malaysia, particularly for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). “It is imperative that companies embrace ESG practices to better manage their business impact directly or indirectly.

Multinationals, especially those operating in Penang, are scrutinizing their supply chains and seeking sustainable practices,” noted Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd. Shafiei, Director of the Centre for Global Sustainability Study at USM. The ‘Connect2Save’ platform, built on a cloud infrastructure, enables users to monitor and disclose ESG data securely and centrally. The outcomes of this pilot program will be shared, promoting sustainable best practices with environmental, social, and economic benefits for businesses and communities alike.
