PUTRAJAYA, November 9 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as the Finance Minister, has confirmed that a new salary scheme for civil servants will be announced before the end of 2024. To facilitate this announcement, several guidelines will be prepared before the end of this year or in the first quarter of 2024. Addressing the 2023 Public Sector Innovasi Perdana Awards ceremony organized by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), Prime Minister Anwar revealed that Malaysia’s existing policy involves conducting a salary adjustment study every ten years.

However, the nation has entered its 12th year without such a comprehensive study, prompting the launch of the Public Service Remuneration Scheme Study. To address the delay, the government has previously announced an initial incentive of RM2,000 for civil servants in Grade 56 and below, along with an RM1,000 incentive for all government retirees, including pensioned and non-pensioned veterans. These one-time payments are scheduled for distribution at the end of February 2024.

Prime Minister Anwar emphasized that the unity government is dedicated to implementing clear policies aimed at enhancing the nation’s economy and the well-being of its citizens, contributing to the overall improvement and growth of the current national economic landscape. This commitment to a new salary scheme for civil servants aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to support the nation’s workforce and drive economic progress in Malaysia.
