KUALA LUMPUR, November 10 – In line with the spirit of a united Malaysia, the government, during the Cabinet meeting on January 18, 2023, agreed to provide free toll for two days to highway users across the country in conjunction with the celebration of Deepavali, which will be observed on November 12, 2023. The Ministry of Works (KKR), in collaboration with concessionaire companies, has also agreed on the implementation of this toll waiver, which will commence on November 11, 2023 (Saturday) at 12:01 a.m. and continue until November 12, 2023 (Sunday) at 11:59 p.m.
The toll exemption will be given to all vehicle classes at all toll plazas, EXCEPT at the border toll plazas, namely the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Toll Plaza and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza in Johor. This initiative aims to celebrate all Malaysians, especially the Hindu Indian community who observe Deepavali. It is in line with the government’s unity agenda, aimed at easing the burden on the diverse religious, ethnic, and belief communities. The chosen date also aims to avoid traffic congestion on the return journey to hometowns and back to the city. The toll exemption is expected to benefit 11.8 million vehicles within those two days.
With the implementation of free tolls, it is hoped that highway users can take advantage of this opportunity and plan their journeys efficiently. Highway users are also advised to adhere to the recommended travel time advisory (TTA) schedule. Safety and responsible driving should be paramount to ensure all highway users reach their destinations safely and enjoy the Deepavali celebration with their loved ones. Users can check the traffic status or any incidents on the highway, which will be updated on the official social media of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) on Facebook: Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia or Twitter @LLMtrafik.
