KUALA LUMPUR, December 10 – Malaysia’s clinical research community has garnered global acclaim with the inclusion of studies conducted by Malaysian oncologists in the prestigious European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress held in Madrid, Spain. The ESMO Congress, a pivotal annual event in the field of oncology, presented data on the latest advancements in cancer research, clinical management, and groundbreaking treatments. Key highlights featured proffered paper presentations, including studies on Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), where Malaysian oncologists Dr Muthukkumaran Thiagarajan and Dr Adlinda Alip played crucial co-author roles, showcasing superior results in trial treatments for NSCLC with specific mutations.
Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM), recognized as a Global Trusted Research Management Organisation by the Ministry of Health, has been instrumental in accelerating clinical trial delivery and bringing new trials to Malaysia. With a focus on oncology research, CRM’s efforts have led to a significant increase in the number of sponsored research programs in the country. The organization’s initiatives include the establishment of Malaysia’s first First-in-Human (FIH) clinical research ecosystem, with findings from a recent FIH study presented at the AACR-NCI-EORTC International Conference 2023.
CRM’s engagement in international collaborations, such as the Global Partner Consultation Program organized by Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Canada, underscores Malaysia’s commitment to becoming a preferred hub for clinical research in the Asia-Pacific region. As Malaysia breaks records with the number of new trials in 2023, CRM remains dedicated to positioning the country as a key player in clinical research, particularly in the field of oncology. The organization’s commitment to bringing innovative therapies to address the unmet needs of patients reflects Malaysia’s growing prominence in the global clinical research landscape.
