KEMAMAN, November 12 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is in the process of taking legal action against two of its Members of Parliament following their decision to express support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, seen as conflicting with the party’s stance. Bersatu’s Information Chief, Datuk Razali Idris, stated that the party is examining and collecting evidence to enable legal action against Jeli MP Zahari Kechik and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim. Razali explained, “We are studying the action to be taken against both of them because they received a mandate (to contest in the previous election) from PAS.
We will also involve them in other matters that violate the law and will report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police because they openly declared support for the PM to receive financial rewards. In this case, there are elements of bribery promising financial rewards, and we consider it as a form of corruption carried out openly.” Razali made these comments after attending the launch of the election machinery for the Kemaman Parliamentary By-Election here on Friday. According to Razali, two other Bersatu MPs, namely Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), have had their memberships suspended, including the positions they held in the party.
Addressing the MPs’ actions expressing support for the Prime Minister, Razali regarded it as a betrayal of the trust given by voters and not considering the hard work done by the party’s machinery. He emphasized that the decision is seen as somewhat ‘crazy,’ akin to supporting Israel but claiming loyalty to Palestine. Razali stated, “Those who provide support that contradicts the party should resign, vacate their seats, and we can hold elections. If they want to show how great they are, resign, vacate the post and contest again on the ticket they support.”
Commenting on the allegations that the leadership of Perikatan Nasional (PN) is not serious about the allocation issue for MPs, he said that PN stopped the negotiations because they refused to express support for the Prime Minister. He added, “To get the allocation, we have to support the PMX (Prime Minister), whatever the law, requests for decisions made in Parliament, we have to support. But if he does something contradictory to the party’s principles, struggle, and the law, we cannot support. That’s why we stopped the negotiations, and we think it’s okay even if there is no allocation.”
Last Wednesday, Mohd Azizi and Zahari declared their support for Anwar’s leadership but affirmed their obedience, loyalty, and continuity as Bersatu members. This action followed Iskandar Dzulkarnain’s similar declaration on October 12, followed by Suhaili two weeks later.
