GEORGE TOWN, November 20 — Anthony Loke Siew Fook, the Secretary-General of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), has categorically refuted circulating rumors suggesting a movement to oust or replace Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow before the next dissolution of the state legislative assembly. Speaking at the Penang DAP annual convention, Loke emphasized that DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng and the entire Central Executive Committee (CEC) fully support Chow in leading the state for the remainder of the term.
Loke dismissed the rumors as baseless and urged party members to stand united behind Chow and the state government. Addressing the media after the convention, Loke, who also serves as the Transport Minister, expressed his trust in Chow and called on all party members to strengthen their support for the party and the state government. He clarified that Chow was unanimously chosen by DAP before the previous general election, and any potential changes would be decided collectively by the CEC.
Loke reiterated that Chow had committed to leading Penang for two terms, in accordance with the state constitution, and outlined plans for a smooth transition within DAP to identify a successor within the next four years. Chow Kon Yeow, the current Penang Chief Minister and state party Chairman, along with Lim Guan Eng and other state party leaders, were present at the convention. Loke’s statements aimed to dispel rumors and ensure stability within the party and the Penang state administration.
