GEORGE TOWN, November 23 — A third international school in Penang reported receiving a bomb threat via email, contributing to a nationwide series of 19 such threats. The school, located in Batu Ferringhi, lodged a police report today after receiving the email at 9:42 am on November 21, 2023. The email, similar to those received by two other schools, came from the address [email protected]. Across Malaysia, seven schools in Selangor, five in Kuala Lumpur, three in Johor, two in Penang, and one each in Perak and Negeri Sembilan received identical bomb hoax emails.
Northeast district acting police chief Supt V. Saravanan confirmed that security checks were conducted at all affected schools, revealing no evidence of explosives. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stated that similar threats were sent to 70 schools in Jamaica earlier this month. Investigators believe the threats may originate from an individual with a history of abuse, possibly during childhood, suggesting a disturbed motive behind the nationwide hoax.
