KUALA LUMPUR, November 25 – A special meeting of the Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) was convened on the evening of November 24, 2023. The meeting, presided over by BERSATU’s Deputy Chairman, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal bin Dato’ Haji Azumu, addressed the recent announcement made by the party’s President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin, during his keynote address at the Annual General Assembly (PAT) earlier today, declared that he would not seek re-election as the party’s President in the upcoming party polls scheduled before the end of next year. The meeting unanimously rejected Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s proposal not to defend his position in the party election. Deputy Chairman Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal bin Dato’ Haji Azumu chaired the discussions, and the MPT was united in its stance that Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s leadership is essential for both the party and the nation.
The decision underscores the council’s confidence in Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s leadership capabilities and the significant role he plays in steering the party and the country forward. This development adds an interesting twist to the internal dynamics of BERSATU, and the party now faces a critical juncture as it navigates the implications of Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s decision and the unified support expressed by the Supreme Leadership Council.
