KUALA LUMPUR, November 27 ― Malaysia remains a top-choice investment destination for data centers, according to Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil. He emphasized the government’s commitment to developing governance structures, public policies, and regulatory frameworks to facilitate the growing interest in hosting data centers in the country. Minister Fahmi expressed readiness to collaborate with businesses and organizations, aiming for a robust and future-ready ecosystem.

As Malaysia prepares to chair ASEAN in 2025, efforts will include working on economic framework agreements and accelerating the development of regulatory frameworks within ASEAN to foster digital economy participation among the region’s 660 million people. Speaking at the Digital Transformation Leaders CxO Summit, Fahmi highlighted the importance of convincing both the Malaysian public and businesses about the opportunities presented by technologies like 5G. He encouraged leaders at the summit to engage with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to explore ways the federal government can facilitate and expedite investments, including attracting talent from abroad.

This commitment aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s vision to reshape Malaysia’s global perception and is in line with the country’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030, where the digital economy is a key pillar driving economic growth. Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of MDEC, stated that the organization is actively enhancing the technological ecosystem by supporting innovation, fostering growth, and driving digital transformation. MDEC is exploring various technology adoption areas, including not only 5G but also blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI).
