GEORGE TOWN, November 27 – Amidst the whirlwind of technological innovation and youthful enthusiasm, Tech Dome Penang is taking center stage by hosting Robomania 2023, a thrilling event co-organized with Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) and UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College. This grand competition represents the culmination of an exciting journey in which young minds from various schools delved into the world of robotics, aiming to claim the top position. The participants, who have successfully completed hands-on robotics workshops, are now ready to demonstrate their newly acquired skills and knowledge.

These workshops have been instrumental in imparting essential insights into robot design, programming, and problem-solving, setting the stage for a highly competitive and captivating event. Robomania 2023 isn’t just a competition; it’s a vibrant showcase of emerging talents in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Students collaborate in teams, navigating through challenging rounds that put their robots, products of countless hours of dedication, to the test. These tasks are thoughtfully designed to not only challenge the robots’ mechanical and technical capabilities but also to stimulate students’ problem-solving abilities, creativity, and teamwork.

This year, the event saw significant growth in participation. Last year, 320 students from primary and secondary schools across five districts participated. This year, 720 students from 60 schools, including 30 primary and 30 secondary schools, took part. This expansion highlights the event’s commitment to engaging all school participants in STEM activities, aligning with Penang State’s goals. During the secondary competition, 20 schools from the mainland and 10 from the island, including many rural schools, joined the event, giving all students an equal opportunity to explore STEM. Schools like SMK Guar Perahu, SMK Dato Kailan, SMKA Al Irshad, SMK Dato Haji Ahmad Said, and SMK Gemilang, many of which participated in STEM activities for the first time, discovered the satisfaction of bringing their projects to life.

Robomania 2023 expresses deep gratitude to Globetronics Sdn Bhd and Hotayi Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd for their continued support since the event’s inception in 2019. Special thanks go to Boston Scientific and Motorola Solutions for providing dedicated mentors to supervise the teams, contributing to the event’s success. This year, a total of 720 students from 60 schools, both primary and secondary, participated. The top three winning teams received trophies, while 15 consolation prizes were awarded in both primary and secondary categories. The competition serves as an inspiration for students to explore, invent, and dream big.
