KUCHING, December 3 — Sarawak is gearing up to achieve its ambitious Sarawak Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), aiming for a skilled workforce comprising 30% locals while reducing dependence on foreign labor in line with the state’s path towards becoming a developed entity by 2030. To achieve this goal, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) has joined forces with the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) and the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA).
Together, they are set to foster local talent and industry-academia collaboration (IAC) to create an adaptable workforce tailored to the evolving industry demands. YB Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak, has lauded TalentCorp’s commitment to enabling the success of this initiative, particularly in tailoring initiatives for greater effectiveness within Sarawak’s education system. The Industry-Academia collaboration (IAC) initiative will gather input and insights from industry and academia stakeholders through focused group discussions.
This workshop is designed to address talent-related challenges across various industry clusters and will serve as a vital step in shaping a skilled workforce ready to meet the industry’s future demands, including sectors like Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Services, and tourism. Dr. Hadysyam Bin Junaidi, the Director of Corporate Services on behalf of RECODA’s CEO, Datu Ismawi Hj Ismuni, expressed their mission of attracting investments, executing development projects, creating jobs for Sarawakians, engaging industry stakeholders, supporting local communities, and implementing industry-focused upskilling and employment programs.
The EMPLOY@SCORE program, a collaboration between the Ministry of Human Resources, TalentCorp, RECODA, MEITD, and UNIMAS, focuses on addressing unemployment and bridging skill gaps based on industry demand, benefiting 1,137 young Sarawakians while ensuring a skilled workforce for industry players and promoting upskilling and manpower development. This collaboration will play a pivotal role in shaping a workforce adaptable to the evolving needs of Sarawak’s industries.
