GEORGE TOWN, December 8 – Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) has announced a strategic four-day water supply interruption scheduled for January 2024 to facilitate urgent infrastructure repairs at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The main objective is to replace two units of 1,200mm control valves that are leaking, contributing to non-revenue water (NRW) and posing the risk of major water interruptions in the future. This essential maintenance initiative will affect approximately 590,000 consumers in Penang Island and Seberang Perai, encompassing both domestic and non-domestic users.

The scheduled water supply interruption will commence at 6.00 am on Wednesday, 10 January 2024, and last until 6.00 am on Sunday, 14 January 2024. PBAPP aims to address the leaking valves within the WTP and conduct ancillary water works projects at 22 other locations across the state. During this period, residents are advised to prepare for the temporary disruption, with specific emphasis on car washes and laundromats ceasing operations. PBAPP is set to deploy tanker supplies to mitigate the impact on affected areas and ensure a swift restoration of water supply following the completion of the critical maintenance works.
While the majority of consumers in the affected regions are expected to experience no water supply, PBAPP acknowledges the inconvenience and apologizes for the temporary disruption. This planned intervention is deemed necessary to secure the long-term sustainability of the water supply system, minimize unscheduled interruptions, and reduce water losses or NRW.
