NIBONG TEBAL, December 11 — The Penang police have reiterated their commitment to prioritizing the receipt of reports over the attire of complainants following an incident where a man claimed he was told to change into long pants before lodging a theft report. Penang Police Chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin clarified that the department’s primary focus is on serving the community and assisting those seeking help, emphasizing that appropriate attire is not a factor when filing a police report. The force is currently investigating the incident and pledges to take appropriate action against the personnel involved.
Khaw stated, “The priority is to receive a police report and take immediate action to help a victim. It is not about appropriate or inappropriate attire when lodging a police report.” The man’s encounter occurred at the Simpang Ampat police station, where a Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) member allegedly instructed him to change trousers before filing the report. The police chief revealed that investigations are ongoing, and actions will be taken accordingly. The department remains dedicated to upholding a standard of service that prioritizes community welfare over procedural considerations.
