KOTA KINABALU, December 12 – Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp), an agency under the Ministry of Human Resources, hosted a dialogue and networking session in Kota Kinabalu with the theme “Sabah Maju Jaya: Aligning the Talent Ecosystem with Economic Growth.” Attended by 75 industry and academia members based in Sabah, the session aimed to address talent mismatch issues and close economic growth gaps in the region. YB Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud, Deputy Minister of Human Resources, commended TalentCorp’s efforts in providing a platform for stakeholders to actively contribute to strengthening Malaysia’s talent landscape.

During the session, YB Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud announced comprehensive legal amendments to the Sabah Labour Ordinance to make it more progressive, fair, and equitable. These changes, covering 187,000 employers and over 2 million workers in Sabah, align with the government’s focus on skills development, especially through TVET. The formation of the Sabah Labour Advisory Council (SLAC) was also disclosed, aiming to provide a platform for views, advice, and recommendations related to labor matters. SLAC is expected to contribute to tailored policies and legislation for Sabah.

Thomas Mathew, Group CEO of TalentCorp, highlighted the importance of the dialogue and the insights gained from industry and academia. He emphasized the need to map and rechart Sabah’s high-priority talent requirements, linking them with available talent supply from educational institutions. This initiative is part of TalentCorp’s ongoing efforts in the state, complementing its recent regional Industry-Academia Collaboration (IAC) workshop organized in collaboration with the Sabah state government and Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA).
