KUALA LUMPUR, December 13 – Maxis, a leading telecommunications company, has achieved success with its consumer e-waste recycling campaign, offering convenient on-premise pickups in the Klang Valley, Johor Bahru, and Penang. Collaborating with E-waste Recycling Through Heroes (ERTH), a social enterprise e-waste collection center authorized by the Department of Environment, the campaign aims to combat irresponsible disposal at landfills.

Consumers can easily participate by requesting e-waste collection through the Maxis website, listing items for recycling, and preparing them for pickup at the scheduled date and time. Additionally, residents’ associations and building management can organize e-waste collection drives in collaboration with ERTH. Since the campaign’s launch on October 14, coinciding with International E-Waste Day, Maxis and ERTH have collected over 2,000 items, preventing more than 5 tonnes of e-waste from reaching landfills. The campaign has gained international recognition, winning the Excellence in Sustainability Video Award at the GSMA M360 Asia-Pacific.

Patrick Er, Chief Sales and Services Officer of Maxis, expressed enthusiasm for the positive reception and noted plans for future expansion to create greater awareness and recruit more participants across Malaysia. Mohamed Tarek El-Fatatry, Founder of ERTH, emphasized the environmental impact of e-waste, expressing hope that the project inspires more Malaysians to practice e-waste recycling and contribute to positive environmental changes. Consumers participating in the program can enjoy free e-waste collection for a minimum of three used electronic or electric devices.
