GEORGE TOWN, December 17 – Zer0 Orchestra Penang achieved resounding success with its “Music Flows In You 2023” concert held at Dewan Sri Penang on December 9, 2023. Established in 2009 and officially registered in 2016, the orchestra has organized seven editions of the Music Flows In You fundraising concert, contributing funds to cover annual expenses like instrument maintenance, repairs, and the acquisition of new scores and instruments.
The concert featured over three hundred performers, including musicians from Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur, four primary school choirs, children from the Music Seed Programme, and grandmothers from ROSE Charities, creating a diverse and enriching musical experience. Under the direction of conductor and music director Hoo Kah Hao, the orchestra showcased a versatile repertoire, including the conductor’s composition “Overture,” the “East Meets West Symphony,” and the familiar theme song “铁血丹心” from the TV series “The Legend of the Condor Heroes.”
The concert not only highlighted the orchestra’s musical prowess but also provided a platform for rare instruments such as guzheng, pipa, and yangqin. Additionally, the collaborative performances with children from the Music Seed Programme and primary school choirs added a heartwarming touch to the event, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for diverse musical styles. The concert’s success was a testament to Zer0 Orchestra Penang’s commitment to promoting musical inclusivity and showcasing the beauty of various instruments and genres.
