GEORGE TOWN, December 19 – Hanafi Lubis, the Treasurer of DAP Cawangan Hill Railway, Penang, responded to recent allegations claiming that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) undermines the Malaysian Constitution. Lubis referenced a statement made by Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh, YB Muhammad Fawwaz Mohd Jan, on December 16, 2023, published on Harakahdaily.net. Lubis dismissed these allegations, emphasizing that DAP consistently upholds the principles of the Malaysian Constitution, irrespective of religion and ethnicity.
In support of this stance, the Secretary-General of DAP, Anthony Loke, reiterated the party’s commitment to the Malaysian Constitution, as outlined in the Shah Alam Declaration 2012 and DAP@50 Declaration 2016. These declarations affirm DAP’s dedication to preserving the four principles of Malay special privileges, the position of Malay rulers, Islam as the federal religion, the special status of Malays, and the Malay language as the national language. Lubis highlighted that any deviation from the Malaysian Constitution would lead to the party’s dissolution.
Lubis urged PAS to focus on state economic development under its leadership instead of baseless accusations. He cited Kelantan’s modest contribution of 1.8% to the national GDP after 33 years of PAS governance, emphasizing the need for PAS to prioritize constructive governance over unfounded claims. Lubis concluded by questioning whether such accusations are part of PAS’s political culture, referring to previous allegations about Lim Guan Eng’s supposed relation to Lee Kuan Yew.
