KUALA LUMPUR, December 29 – Malaysia’s investment landscape marks a remarkable achievement as the nation surpasses its annual job creation target. Approved investments amounting to RM225.0 billion for the first nine months of 2023 have led to the creation of almost 90,000 jobs, showcasing Malaysia’s resilience amid global uncertainties. Noteworthy is the diverse investor base, with Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) constituting 55.9% of the total, and major contributions from countries such as the Netherlands, Singapore, the United States, China, and Japan.
The services sector emerges as a significant player, securing RM117.7 billion in approved investments, making up 52.3% of the total. This sector is anticipated to generate 40,607 new jobs, highlighting its appeal for both domestic and foreign investors. Malaysia’s manufacturing sector is also on an upward trajectory, attracting RM99.8 billion in investments, a substantial 53.9% increase from the same period in 2022. Notable projects, including Lumileds Malaysia’s RM25.7 billion investment in LED manufacturing, position Malaysia strategically in the global technology cycle.
