SEPANG, December 31 – AirAsia Aviation Group has announced the appointment of Riad Asmat to its Board of Advisors, as he steps down from his role as the Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad (AirAsia Malaysia) effective 31 December 2023. Riad’s strategic vision and leadership have played a crucial role in guiding the airline through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. His contributions have not only sustained the airline during these unprecedented times but have also positioned it for a promising future in the post-pandemic landscape.
Riad Asmat will continue to serve on the Board of AirAsia Berhad and Ground Team Red, in addition to providing consultancy work for Capital A Aviation Services. In expressing his gratitude, Riad mentioned, “Thank you Datuk Kamarudin, Tony, Bo, and all our Allstars for the undying support given to me throughout my tenure, and I am forever grateful. While stepping down as CEO, I am looking forward to continuing to support the company in its next chapter.” Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, expressed appreciation for Riad’s outstanding leadership and contributions.
Bo Lingam mentioned that while Riad steps down as CEO, he will remain an integral part of AirAsia by joining the Board of Advisors. The operations of the airline are expected to continue unaffected by this transition, and the company looks forward to continuing its journey with Riad’s guidance until a new CEO is appointed. Riad Asmat took on the role of AirAsia Berhad CEO on 10 January 2018, overseeing the management of the company’s Malaysia-based operations.
