PUTRAJAYA, January 3 – Economic Affairs Minister Rafizi Ramli has refuted claims suggesting that the Central Database Hub’s (Padu) electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) process, involving uploading a selfie with an identification card, takes three days for approval. Rafizi clarified on social media that the eKYC process currently takes less than five minutes for confirmation and approval. As of 5 pm, over 40,000 eKYCs had been confirmed, with fewer than 300 registrations in the eKYC queue to be confirmed.
Rafizi assured the public that the algorithm’s processing speed eliminates the need for a three-day waiting period. Responding to concerns raised by Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming about potential misuse of identification card details, Rafizi advised users to directly contact the online Helpdesk, call center, or visit the physical counter if they encounter such issues. Padu, developed in collaboration with various ministries, agencies, and state governments, requires all Malaysians aged 18 and above to register or review their data on the Padu portal, updating and confirming 39 personal details.
