KUALA LUMPUR, January 4 — Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has asserted that the Barisan Nasional (BN) parliamentary bloc is being targeted by certain parties within the Opposition coalition. He claims that these efforts aim to ensure success in any move to topple the existing government, including the recent ‘Dubai Move.’ Ahmad Maslan argues that BN MPs, unlike other parties in the unity government, have shown disloyalty to the party since the 14th General Election (GE14).
Citing the departure of 16 BN MPs since 2018—15 Umno MPs joining Bersatu and one Malay party MP joining Parti Warisan—Ahmad Maslan points to a history of undisciplined and disloyal behavior. He acknowledges BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s confirmation of the ‘Dubai Move,’ revealing that key figures in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) contacted several MPs. Ahmad Maslan believes that the plotters are targeting Umno MPs due to difficulties in gaining support from the Sarawak and Sabah party bloc.
According to Ahmad Maslan, efforts to penetrate and gain support from Sarawak and Sabah MPs have proven challenging for the plotters. He emphasizes that Umno and BN have implemented a loyalty bond of RM100 million for every election candidate to deter defections. Ahmad Maslan considers the ‘Dubai Move’ a mirage, asserting that all BN MPs are aware of the consequences, including a fine of RM100 million if they defect. He concludes that even if all 30 BN MPs switch their support, it would not change the position of the Unity Government, which currently enjoys the support of 152 MPs.
