GEORGE TOWN, January 5 — Daily operations at both public and private hospitals in Penang will proceed as usual during the upcoming four-day water supply disruption, according to state executive councillor Daniel Gooi Zi Sen. Penang Hospital, along with other government hospitals in the state, is equipped with water tanks that can sustain operations for 48 hours, ensuring continuity during the interruption. Non-emergency surgeries in the affected hospitals will be temporarily postponed and rescheduled, while emergency cases will still be accommodated.

The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) will deploy water tankers regularly to refill the water tanks in all hospitals, including private institutions, government health clinics, and public and private dialysis centers. However, government dental clinics will not be operational during the disruption, and appointments will be rescheduled accordingly. The scheduled water supply disruption, affecting 590,000 consumers, is set to commence on January 10, with 85% of the population in Penang affected, except for areas such as Air Itam and Tanjung Bungah.
