BAYAN LEPAS, January 7 – In response to the upcoming four-day scheduled water supply disruption in Penang starting January 10, residents in the Teluk Kumbar area are extending an invitation for the public to access well water at their homes. Suria Nawawi, a resident, stated that her well, over 40 years old, has never run dry and serves as a reliable source during water disruptions. While suitable for bathing, she suggests storing it separately for cooking and drinking. The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) plans to use 99 tankers for water delivery during the disruption.
The PBAPP announced a 96-hour water disruption affecting approximately 590,000 users for valve replacement at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant. Despite the inconvenience, residents are proactively offering well water to mitigate the impact on the community. PBAPP CEO K. Pathmanathan revealed plans for the largest water tanker fleet in Penang’s history, including 27 jumbo tanks with a capacity of 40,000 liters each. Additionally, 97 static water tanks, including rented flexi elephant tanks, will be deployed for water storage during the disruption. The residents’ willingness to share well water exemplifies community cooperation in managing water challenges.
