GEORGE TOWN, January 10 – IR. Pathmanathan K., CEO of PBAHB and PBAPP, issues another update on the ongoing January 2024 Scheduled Water Supply Interruption (SWSI). At the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant, significant progress has been made. One of the two leaking 1.2m control valves has been safely and properly replaced, while the second valve is now at an 80% completion status.

Across the 22 other project locations, all planned water works projects are either ahead of schedule or on track, showcasing efficient management and execution. The emergency response team, consisting of 16 divers, has initiated work on repairing the 1.35m hole in the underwater pipeline at Sungai Perai. This time, two heavy-duty clamps will be installed to cover the damaged area. Progress in this area depends on river conditions.

PBAPP continues to aim for the completion of all water works by 6:00 am tomorrow morning (January 11, 2024), including the emergency response work at Sungai Perai. If successful, Stage 1 water supply recovery works are set to commence as scheduled, starting from 6:01 am tomorrow. The PBAPP team expresses gratitude for the collective efforts and assures the public that every measure is being taken to adhere to the timeline and minimize disruptions.
