KUALA LUMPUR, January 17 – As global inflation tightens budgets and exacerbates food insecurity, Kenyang by aRemnant, a social enterprise rooted in Ipoh, has launched an initiative to support lower-income households, particularly students, facing food challenges. Kenyang aims to provide nutritious meals utilizing a zero-waste concept, focusing on sustainability and community empowerment. The initiative is centered around 117 Hub in Ipoh, designed as a community space fostering income generation and resources for the Kenyang RM0 Meal Assistance program.
Kenyang, founded by Tan Yuen Mun, prioritizes helping underprivileged children from B40 households, providing them with not only nourishing meals but also instilling a passion for self-development. The Zero Food Waste Concept forms the backbone of Kenyang’s feeding programs, collaborating with partners like Rise Against Hunger and local farmers to rescue surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. Recognized for its potential to promote self-sufficiency and sustainable practices, Kenyang received seed funding through the Impact Accelerator Program in partnership with Yayasan Hasanah.
The RM0 Meal Assistance, currently benefiting children in Chemor, Perak, focuses on providing nutritious meals to support healthy growth. Kenyang’s upcoming plans for 2024 include expanding the program, introducing culinary classes, and hands-on learning about sustainable community gardens. The initiative welcomes volunteers and aims to collaborate with Harena Cafe, Ipoh, to provide affordable nutritious meals to the needy community. Kenyang’s vision is to make a difference, one plate at a time, fostering resilience and sustainable practices in the B40 community.
