KUALA LUMPUR, January 19 – Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has appointed new legal representation for his appeal against the criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of funds, and money laundering convictions. Syed Saddiq has chosen former Solicitor-General II Mohd Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abidin and senior lawyer Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik to represent him in the Court of Appeal.

The new legal team, led by Mohd Yusof, will take over from the previous lead counsel Gobind Singh Deo, who was appointed as the Minister of Digital in a cabinet reshuffle. Syed Saddiq, the former youth and sports minister, was sentenced to seven years in jail and fined RM10 million in November 2023 after being found guilty of the charges.
