GEORGE TOWN, January 24 – In response to the Sungai Perai water pipeline incident on 23rd January 2024, Ir. Pathmanathan K., CEO of Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) and PBA Holdings Bhd (PBAHB), announced today the initiation of two simultaneous action plans. The plans, labeled “Plan A” and “Plan B,” aim to expedite the recovery of water supply services for the 120,000 affected consumers in Daerah Barat Daya (DBD) and Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS).
Plan A involves the immediate re-clamping of a 1.15m x 0.65m hole on the leaking 1,350mm underwater pipeline section. This temporary solution is set to recover water supply for 84% of the affected consumers by 8:00 AM, Friday, 26th January 2024. Meanwhile, Plan B focuses on diverting work to commission two new 600mm pipelines, replacing the compromised section. The completion of “Plan B” is expected to restore water supply for 84% of the affected consumers by Wednesday, 31st January 2024. These dual-action plans underscore PBAPP’s commitment to addressing the crisis promptly, with the company continuing to provide updates on its official platforms and through mass media releases.
