GEORGE TOWN, January 26 – In a recent statement issued on January 23, 2024, Tun Mahathir’s criticism towards the leadership under the Madani Government raises concerns about its rationality and constructive nature. The seasoned politician’s challenge, framed as a “short-sighted” view of the current administration, appears to lack reason and rationality. As a prominent political figure, Mahathir should prioritize what is best for the nation rather than seemingly attempting to destabilize the government and the country. Rather than offering constructive criticism aimed at nation-building, Mahathir’s remarks seem geared towards undermining the existing government.
The challenge presented by Mahathir, urging the 10th Prime Minister to call for general elections, appears more driven by personal vendettas than a genuine intention to improve the state of the nation. Instead of proposing divisive political maneuvers, Mahathir could redirect his efforts towards positive initiatives, such as endorsing trending programs like the Friday pre-dawn prayers (Subuh) that resonate with the current societal trends. This would contribute to fostering a sense of unity and peace among the people, rather than inciting political turmoil. At the very least, it would present a more constructive and less disruptive approach compared to pushing for unnecessary elections.
If Mahathir wishes to issue challenges, it would be more beneficial for the nation if those challenges were geared towards constructive nation-building, allowing space for the 10th Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, to govern and lead Malaysia towards meaningful reforms. The call for general elections seems ill-conceived and could potentially exacerbate political tensions rather than contribute to the betterment of the nation. Tun Mahathir, as a veteran statesman, should consider adopting a more rational and positive approach for the greater good of the country.
