KUALA LUMPUR, January 30 — The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has announced a change in the kick-off date for the forthcoming M-League season, moving it from May 3 to 5 to May 10 to 12. This rescheduling comes in response to a date modification by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) to assess the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in Malaysia. In a recent statement, the MFL disclosed that Fifa has proposed April 16 to 21 for the VAR inspection, prompting the need for a series of matches involving M-League clubs from April 22 to May 5 to facilitate the testing of the VAR system.

These matches are vital to assess the functionality and stability of the mobile VAR concept, particularly in live telecasts. Additionally, the MFL confirmed the nomination of Sabah FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC, the third and fourth-placed teams respectively in the 2023 Super League, to compete in the 2024 Asean Club Championship (ACC), pending feedback from the Asean Football Federation (AFF). Moreover, despite the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) decision not to set a limit on foreign player usage, the MFL stated that the quota of nine import players will remain unchanged for the 2024-2025 season, with exceptions granted only to teams participating in AFC competitions.
