GEORGE TOWN, February 2 — Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) announced the complete restoration of water supply to all 120,000 users affected by the Sungai Perai pipe leak incident on January 23. PBAPP CEO K. Pathmanathan stated that the Sungai Perai emergency response initiative’s Plan B, involving two new 600-millimetre pipes connected along the Ampang Jajar Bridge, was completed ahead of schedule. As of 3 pm, all 120,000 users received their water supply, with PBAPP optimizing water pumping from the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant to Penang.
The original deadline for full water supply restoration was set for 3:30 pm today, but PBAPP’s efforts ensured completion 24 hours earlier. Pathmanathan expressed gratitude to affected consumers for their understanding, patience, and cooperation during the crisis response. Users who still face water supply issues are advised to check with building management or contact the PBAPP 24-Hour Call Centre at 04-255 8255.
