GEORGE TOWN, February 4 – Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) proudly announces the reopening of the Penang Hill Station following an extensive renovation project initiated on March 20, 2021. With an investment of RM10.9 million and a meticulous three-year effort, the transformed station is ready to host visitors, offering expanded facilities and an elevated experience. Formerly known as Penang Hill Upper Station, the renewed space integrates historical charm with modern conveniences, marking a significant milestone in the preservation of Penang’s heritage.

Aligned with the Penang Hill Special Area Plan, the project focused on enlarging the waiting hall and enhancing facilities, resulting in a two-floor space covering 1,422 sqm. Boasting a capacity to accommodate 700 visitors, a notable increase from the previous 250, the Penang Hill Station combines its historical essence with contemporary amenities like elevators, escalators, restrooms, and a smart queue management system. The station’s commitment to sustainability is evident through rooftop solar panels, a green roof, and a rainwater harvesting system, aligning with the State Government’s aspiration for a Green Building Index (GBI) Gold rating.

Nestled within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the revitalized Penang Hill Station serves as a gateway to the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve while paying homage to the overlooked heroes of the iconic funicular railway’s construction. Featuring information walls showcasing the region’s biodiversity and recognizing contributors to the railway’s history, the station invites visitors to partake in the celebration of its rebirth, promising an enriched and sustainable experience at this historical landmark.
