KUALA LUMPUR, February 6 – Maxis, the telecommunications giant, has responded to claims by the hacker group R00TK1T, stating that its internal system remains intact but identified a breach involving third-party vendor systems. The screenshots released by R00TK1T depicted a backend system supposedly belonging to Maxis, showcasing router names like Huawei LG8245, Kaon AR2140, and AR1344E. Maxis acknowledged the unauthorized access to one of its third-party vendor systems, located outside its internal network, and is collaborating with the vendor for a thorough investigation.
While Maxis did not specify the vendor, Aminia, a network solutions provider, appeared on the hacker group’s radar previously, making it a potential target. Maxis emphasizes its commitment to customer privacy and security, assuring ongoing efforts to assess and contain the situation. The telco plans to implement additional defense measures to fortify system robustness and minimize future risks. As the situation develops, Maxis pledges to provide updates on the progress of the investigation.
