GEORGE TOWN, February 6 — Following concerns about the safety of damaged playground equipment in Phase 1 of Gurney Bay, a site visit was conducted this morning. YB H’ng Mooi Lye, Chairman of the Local Government and Urban and Rural Planning Committee in Penang, issued a statement indicating that consultants have directed the contractor to conduct a detailed inspection of the playground equipment (See Cave and See Stack Tower) within 24 hours, starting from February 5, 2024. Upon completion of the inspection and necessary repairs, the playground equipment will be reopened for children’s use.
In the meantime, children and the public can still enjoy other facilities at Gurney Bay, such as the South Vantage Point, Skate Park, Broadway, and more, for recreational activities. The contractor is held responsible for any damages at Gurney Bay for a period of two years under the Damage Liability Period condition. The state government emphasizes that the playground equipment is intended for children aged 3 to 12 only, and signage has been installed at the site. The government assures the public that safety measures are being taken seriously, with ongoing actions to ensure the well-being of all visitors.
